TURBOCHARGER BALANCING

We are constantly asked why balancing quality is so important when repairing turbochargers. The explanation is simple when you know that turbochargers during operation reach speeds from 180,000 to 250,000 min-1. At such speeds, even the smallest unbalance causes significant vibrations, which manifest themselves in the form of strong whizzes and noises and cause a significant load on the bearings. The allowed tolerance is only a few thousandths of a gram - therefore, with high-quality turbochargers, also in the field of repairs, advanced technologies should be used to ensure exceptionally quiet operation and a long service life.

First, the TBcomfort carefully balances the individual components in the low speed range - the shaft with the turbine and the compressor wheel, and then the pre-assembled rotor. This greatly reduces the original unbalance and is the basis for the next step - balancing the assembled turbocharger core on TBsonio. Without precise initial balancing, it would be impossible to keep the values within the tolerances or, worse, the bearings could be damaged or even destroyed during the balancing process.

The TBsonio then performs precise balancing of the initially balanced core within the working speed range and under conditions similar to actual operating conditions. After carrying out the correction by grinding and performing a control run, the core is ready for further, long operation in extreme conditions.

Scope of application

The TBcomfort balancing machine has been designed specifically for balancing turbocharger components with highest accuracy - the shaft with the turbine and the compressor wheel. The accessories required for balancing turbocharger rotors are included in the scope of delivery and allow balancing a wide range of rotors. TBcomfort is equipped with a CAB 820 measuring unit with a touch screen and an electronic drive control system. The adjustable drive makes it easy to control the balancing speed. Thanks to these properties, we can reach increased efficiency and the highest balancing accuracy.

Characteristics

Almost vibration-free work meaning long service life: in the final repair phase, the turbocharger core is tested and balanced with compressed air under conditions similar to rea-life. Only then does the turbocharger have such a small residual unbalance that it practically does not differ in quality from the level of a brand new one.

Turbocharger repair is a complex multi-stage balancing process. The reason why turbinocharger repair requires advanced technology is the flexible behavior of the rotors, high balancing speeds and required accuracy. Using the latest measurement concept, TBsonio allows you to check the dynamic parameters of the turbine in the entire speed range and then gives the exact value of the unbalance mass for correction. Thanks to this, the device has a performance and measurement accuracy comparable to our production machines. Your advantage: fast and precise balancing.

When the turbocharger is operated in the working speed range, a very loud, high-frequency noise is produced – especially when unbalance is involved. Thanks to our SilenceLine concept, which includes multiple measures to reduce noise, the noise level of the TBsonio is less than 67dB – so you can use it without taking any additional noise protection measures.

Brilliant solution - contactless auxiliary device

It is enough to magnetize the rotor and the measurement process can be started. Our non-contact SR70 sensor scans the magnetically positioned angular scale and shows you the exact position of unbalance – much more precisely than before and absolutely wear-free.
